Ingredients to make 3 cups of tomato sauce:
- 2 cans diced tomatoes (14.5 oz. or 411 gr each)
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 yellow onion
- 4 cloves garlic
- 3 fresh basil leaves
- 1/2 carrot (optional)
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- black pepper
- 1 seeded red pepper (optional) for a spicier sauce
- Chop the onion finely. In a medium saucepan, saute the yellow onion in olive oil and add
pressed garlic. Cook until soft and carmelized.
- Grate the carrot finely. Add the remaining ingredients to the saucepan. Bring to a boil,
then reduce to a simmer and cover with a lid. Simmer for 35 minutes, stirring occasionally to
make sure the sauce does not burn.
